I have tried several times to distill rosemary and I haven't succeeded. I grind rosemary and about 150-400 g of rosemary I

put in the kettle with 1l-1.5l of water and wait for 1:30-2 hours on electric hob on mark 4 and fill 3 small prosecco bottles. the yielding is so small that I cant collect them and when I open the distiller, most of rosemary is dry.

It could be possible, the rosemary material you use contains not very much oil, for several reasons, e.g., old material, wrong grinding method, it was too warm during drying the material, etc.

By the way, one distillation takes only about 45 minutes to get 2 1/2 prosecco bottles full (the volume of one bottle is 200 ml), thus to receive in total about 500 ml of hydrosol and oil. You should use a stronger hot plate.

This is perfectly in order. Steam is dry, not wet, thus most of the plant material should stay dry. Wet parts became wet since they had contact with the boiling water.

If you use app. 500 g dry rosemary you will get 10-20 ml essential oil.
